Video Games to Save the World?

In: Creating|Life

20 Mar 2010

I found this video the other day on a blog that I frequent. I spent the 20 minutes to watch it and thought it was really interesting. I threw a comment out on Twitter asking what people’s thoughts were. I thought it would be interesting to bring the discussion here.

If you have 20 minutes, check this out. It goes quick.

Thoughts? Do you have an epic win?

Just finished watching so I really need to have time to let it sink in, but here are my first thoughts. As a gamer, myself, I was originally skeptical of what she was purposing. I get frustrated and have some 'negative' emotions with games, so I didn't really agree with her first statements. I will say that those negative emotions hardly, if ever, come close to the 'need to win'. I really think that is the fundamental pro for her argument. The end is what really got me. These games do look engaging. I am totally for a game, just like a movie, to make me think while enjoying the engagement. I'll let the idea settle first, but I might look into these further, myself.

I agree with the negative emotions. I would always find myself releasing pent up rage on my brothers after playing a game that really frustrated me. The games they have made seem really cool and create an interesting sense of awareness of real world problems.

It will be interesting to see how something like that plays out. I wonder how negative emotions play into the desire for "the epic win"?
